Homo vs Pan

Today I'll be writing about a controversial topic, and that topic is related to calling the chimpanzee Pan troglodytes or Homo troglodytes.
I got to say, I was influenced by a book that I'm reading at the moment and that book is: The Rise and Fall of the Third Chimpanzee, from the writer Jared Diamond. This author in this book writes about the third chimpanzee which are the humans (with the regular chimpanzee and the pygmy chimpanzee  being the other two), more specifically he writes about how we became what we are in an evolutionary point of view and how we are gonna destroy our planet, the other races and even our race if we don't change the way we look at our surroundings.
Our genetic distance from the regular chimpanzees is just 1,6%. Let's just understand what this means, we are 98,4% chimpanzee and we say that we are superior because of that little percentage? Yes okay, this percentage changed things because it is due to our social, cultural development and even due to our posture. But even knowing that, just know that chimps are closer to us than they are to the gorillas or to any other ape for that matter.
All that I'm asking is for you to think about something that a lot of people defend that is to think what it would be like to call the chimps Homo Troglodytes and not Pan Troglodytes. Can you think about the difference that that would have? You would enter a zoo and see a chimp in really bad conditions or being mistreated. Or you would read about studies that have been done, using chimps as subjects, injecting them with something that will kill them, slowly, painfully and the enterprises saying that it is for the development of science and healthcare. How would you feel when you're son that learned in school that the chimps are called Homo Troglodytes and that humans are called Homo Sapiens Sapiens asked you why are this almost humans, so similar to us being treated and killed in this ways when we cannot do this to humans?
When does it change from scientific tests to murder?

Hoje vou escrever sobre um tópico que gera alguma controvérsia, que é o de chamar os chimpanzés Pan Troglodytes ou Homo Troglodytes.
Eu devo dizer que fui influenciado pelo livro que estou a ler agora: O Terceiro Chimpanzé do escritor Jared Diamond. Este autor, neste livro escreve sobre o terceiro chimpanzé que são os humanos (sendo o chimpanzé e o bonobo os outros dois), mais precisamente ele escreve sobre o porquê de nos termos tornado o que somos de um ponto de vista evolucionista e como iremos destruir o nosso planeta, extinguir as outras raças e até a nossa, se não alterarmos a forma de como olhamos para o que nos rodeia.
A nossa distância genética dos chimpanzés regulares é de apenas 1,6%. Vamos compreender o que isto significa, somos 98,4% chimpanzés. Dizemos que somos superiores devido a esta pequena percentagem? Sim está bem, esta percentagem muda as coisa porque é devida ao nosso desenvolvimento social e cultural e até devida à nossa postura erecta e ao facto de sermos bípedes. Mas, mesmo sabendo isso, sabe apenas que os chimpanzés são mais próximos geneticamente de nós do que são dos gorilas ou de qualquer outro símio.
Tudo o que eu estou a  pedir é algo que muitos defendem, que é pensar por um momento como seria chamar ao chimpanzé Homo Troglodytes e não Pan Troglodytes. Consegue pensar na diferença que isso faria? Entraria num Zoo e veria um chimpanzé em más condições ou a ser mal tratado. Ao ler sobre estudos que foram realizados , usando os chimpanzés como sujeitos, a injetá-los com algo que os iria matar lentamente, dolorosamente, e as empresas a justificarem essas ações dizendo que é pelo desenvolvimento da ciência ou pela saúde. Como é que se sentiria quando o seu filho, aprendesse na escola que os chimpanzés detêm o nome científico de Homo Troglodytes e que os humanos detêm o de Homo Sapiens Sapiens, e lhe perguntasse porque é que aqueles quase humanos, tão semelhantes a nós, estão a ser  tratados e mortos daquelas formas quando não se pode fazer isso aos humanos?
Quando é que os testes científicos passam a ser homicídio?
